Moving my blog about all got a little bit frustrating but I'm finally somewhere I am happy with the design template. Thankyou typepad! I expect to be changing things about for the next few weeks but I'm loving the way typepad is laid out as opposed to wordpress which felt cluttered and clunky. Anyway...
About a week ago I collected a big package in the post from Purplelinda crafts full of some brilliantly boyish colours for a lap blanket I wanted to make George. I got straight onto crocheting and have made quite a bit of it up over the last few cold evenings. It's stripy and immensely satisfying to work up but I am already feeling a little bit queasy about weaving in the ends. Lots of stripes = lots of ends. *eek*
Every time I pick up this blanket to work on it I feel really happy with the colour combinations. I'm planning on ordering some more of the Patons Smoothie for a contrasting lap blanket/dolls blanket for Ruby. I'm thinking burnt oranges, reds and purples. As a yarn Smoothie is reasonably easy to work with, although as it's not woven particularly tightly you can split it with your hook if you're not careful which can look awful. But it's also extremely soft, a hard wearing acrylic and really good value with a lovely sheen. And it comes in a huge range of colours. Definitely my yarn of the month! I've ordered quite a bit of yarn from Purple linda crafts over the last few months. It gets shipped extremely quickly which is great but with all the snow trouble at the minute I'm getting my order in now with a view to hopefully getting my hands on it next week.
I've also been messing about with granny square colourways for other blankets and cushion covers. I love working up granny squares. The spikes in the background were an experiment, I'd never tried a spike stitch before and it's given me all sorts of ideas for cardigans and purses. Will I ever get around to all of these things buzzing around in my head?!
