It's that time of the week again and finally I am making something other than granny squares. I figured taking lots of different balls of yarn camping at the weekend wouldn't really work out so I needed a project that I could start, one ball, one hook.
Do you remember this?
And I didn't really like what I'd done, making up my own pattern, I kind of hated it in fact...
So on Thursday I picked up a copy of Inside Crochet and had a flick through and decided the shawl on the front cover I quite liked, so I got it. I'm not really into buying crochet magazines, they're expensive and too broad in their aesthetic. I prefer ravelry or books for patterns, generally the feel of alot of the patterns is so far off 'me' it seems pointless to spend £4.99 on a magazine. I reckon there are 3 or 4 items in this issue I would perhaps try out. There are a few I wouldn't spend my time on but it's difficult to strike the balance I guess for the crochet market. What I wouldn't give for a more contemporary crochet magazine though, with chunky knits, where the cut makes baggy jumpers flattering, cool shawls, NICE cardigans, nothing knitted with an A line at the waist thankyou, straight necklines and cool slouchy hats. It would be beautifully shot like a toast promotional....I'm getting ahead of myself.
It will happen, one of these days.
I've got the pattern down now so it's coming along relatively (this is me we are talking about) quickly. It is so nice not to be doing granny squares! I do love them, but creating something different is a welcome change. I have been doing the grannys with a 5mm hook though and this one I'm using a 3.75mm which took some getting used to, my hands didn't seem to work properly for a bit.
And I do like the colours but most importantly I cannot wait to have something finished!
