In the new year I read this post on the healthy crush blog (one to follow) and I went straight out and got the book. I was definitely up for a bit of New Year Inspiration. In her own words Gabrielle Bernstein 'shows up' for her work, guiding people to live a 'miraculous life'. If the last couple of years have taught me anything, it's that you only get one life, it's not going to be amazingly long and so it makes sense to make it extraordinary. I'm not talking hollywood glitz and glamour, I'm talking simply the possibility for unlimited happiness all the time, even when shit is going down.
This is a 40 day guide to creating 'miraculous' shifts in your life that shift your perception and are grounded in Gabrielle's work as a student in a Course in Miracles. I hadn't heard of it either, but let's roll with it, it's premise is to enable a great life, that's the unarguable goal for us isn't it?
A couple of weeks after getting the book I saw she was speaking in London and last weekend headed down there for a workshop. It wasn't the sort of thing I have ever booked before but I liked her chat and I liked the book, I appreciate just how shifting your perception can change your life and I knew to get down there. Yes, I listened to the ~ing!
I know that she really inspired alot of people in that room on Saturday, she's not one of Oprah's new thought leaders for nothing. Not only is her delivery captivating, the message is clear: Just get out of your own way, pay attention to yourself, be present. It got pretty emotional for some and to be honest after listening to other people's tales I was wiped. Some people carry around the wrong story or other people's for way too long and other people just have hugely challenging circumstances to deal with. There's nothing like taking a minute to walk in another's shoes to get some perspective in life. Music, meditation & inspiration is also pretty up there in my ideal way to spend a Saturday, plus she's hitting the right side of funny to be my kind of spirituality. Whilst there were tears, there were laughs and a huge amount of smiling. Everyone left lifted. Can you ask for anything more than that?
Bottom line is, you're here for great work. You have a special unique offering for the world that only you can deliver and it's up to you to show up and serve. Whether it's being a parent, a teacher, a crafter or an all round lovely person, who we are, what we do, effects a change in the world. Now, we'll tell our children that, that life is full of possibility and that they are there to make a contribution, but how often do we let ourselves remember it? How many bad patterns have we fallen into with our internal dialogue about what we can and can't do? Undo them. Work the days off in this paperback, get on board to be a light worker and BE HAPPY!
