Despite being up against it as far as sanity, energy levels and time went I did not fail with Gwyn's birthday cake.
Yes, he may have had to forgo the initially planned 3 course meal, and yes, he may also have had to cook his own birthday main but all in all actually getting the cake baked was a roaring success because it was yummy. Anyway if he's honest he was happier to cook his thai curry just the way he likes it. Over coffee earlier in the day I'd felt a little put out that he had pulled a pretty disappointed face when I'd said I was going to make thai chicken noodle soup, so fair play really. If you're not going to be happy with what I cook then it probably would be better if you did it yourself!!
Do you see the kitchen aid? I am in love. The chocolate fudge cake from Sarah Randall's Weekend Baking came out really well. And it does a mean mashed potato as well. I'm going to be baking all year. Next up is bread. I am also having an ongoing affair with the bread machine but I have read many good things about the kitchen aid and bread so time for some gourmet loaves I think and because it's all in one bowl it'll be the ideal activity for Ruby and I when George naps tomorrow morning.
If he naps.
I live in hope.
